Dallin's Bday Beach Trip

This past weekend Ryan and I took Dallin to the beach for his birthday. We went to Carolina beach, you can drive out onto the beach and just set up camp where you want it. You can even build fires. (you do need a 4x4 though, we've seen a caddy and a camry stuck in the sand on the entrance along with lots of SUVs like excursion, expeditions, navigators, basically the heavy ones!!) Dallin was so excited to be driving on the beach and even more excited when he found out that we were camping ON the beach. We had SOOOO much fun with him. We missed him really bad Monday morning.( They moved to Knoxville TN on Monday). This was the first time that we have ever taken Dallin out of town for a weekend like that. I would go pick him up every weekend if it wasn't 6 hours away. We regret not taking him to do stuff like that sooner. BUT we had a blast while we did have him and it really rocked to see him having so much fun and being able to hang out just the 3 of us. We took him to teach him how to surf but he wasn't quite ready for that.

Ryan's parents came and met us out there and they brought boogie boards! Dallin LOVES his "Mrs. Lynn and Mr. Rocky" so he was really excited to see them. Dallin had SOO much fun on their boogie boards too. Ryan took him out to show him how to catch the waves and in no time he was off doing it without any help. He is getting SO big. It's hard to believe he is already 6. It seems like yesterday when I was holding him in my arms at the hospital.. and even for Ryan who held him before he crawled.

A couple funny things happened while we were there. First Dallin started walking like a cowboy after boogie boarding for a few hours so I just figured he was getting tired and the sand was starting to hurt his feet. Well it ended up Ryan's dad pulled us off to the side and asked if we thought Dallin was chaffed!!!! and being the girlie girl that I am I said : from what?.. go figure board shorts can chaff you! So Ryan had a boy talk with Dallin and sure enough his little legs were all red and almost raw. We put some ointment on them and the bought him some new board shorts but OH MY GOSH!!!!! All I could think about the rest of the day watching him walk around was Rhinestone Cowboy when Dolly Parton tries to teach Sylvester Stalone how to "walk like a cowboy" and told him it was like walking with jock itch. poor little guy... but what a funny story it will be years from now.

The other funny thing that happened was Dallin kept asking us to walk up to the sand dunes so he could use the potty and we couldn't figure out why he wouldn't just go in the ocean. Well Stacey being the good mom that she is has taught he kids not to pee in the pool and they are all VERY good about it, so apparently Dallin didn't know you could pee in the ocean. So after several trips to the little boys dune Ryan's mom said " he does know he can pee in the water right?" DING DING DING!!!!! so another boys talk occurred between Dallin and Ryan. So off to the water Dallin goes and he stops about knee deep and gets this funny look on his face and spreads his legs way apart and we were all like "what is he doing?" well.... he was peeing in the water...I guess next time we should be a little more specific with directions, we forgot the go deep part. It was truly priceless to watch though.

Here's some pics! Enjoy!
